Change of name

The change Thirty7 just made got me thinking of two sides to this coin...

Is this typically referred to as "SSA1" or "Signature Story Arc I"? I'm wondering if a better template name might be "Req SSA Who Will Die", and then update the template itself to say Requires the Signature Story Arc "Who Will Die". If we're going to refer to it specifically, I'd rather use a clearer name.

On the other hand, each episode is separately purchasable. You can't just purchase the whole arc, and none of the individual episodes require that you own the whole arc. So the requirement of "SSA I" or otherwise is incorrect/misleading. The articles that use this require that specific episodes be purchased. That suggests that either we should keep the name very generic to just suggest that something needs to be purchased, or that we should update the template so that we can more explicitly specify what needs to be purchased on an episodic basis. -- Sekoia 22:05, 3 January 2012 (UTC)

I was JUST about to post this, but closed the tab before submitting it. Technically, "Signature Story Arc #1" is Who Will Die, so this template isn't entirely incorrect. What should probably change is that it says "Requires Who Will Die Episode #2" and the like. --GuyPerfect 22:08, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
Funny, because as soon as I finished making this change, that is precisely what i thought of... maybe we need to ammend the template so that it can say SSA1e3, for example, or some similar type of thing. Because as was pointed out, each Episode is a seperate unlock... and as Sekoia pointed out, WWD is the first SSA, but isn't really referred to in terms of that. *Thinking* —Thirty7 Talk-Icon.jpg 04:06, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

Perhaps a template call such as: {{{Req SSA|arc=Who Will Die|ep=3}}, which then renders as ParagonMarket SignatureStoryArc1.png Requires Who Will Die, Episode 3. ? Should be easy enough to extend in the future. If they have different icons, we can do a switch on the arc name. -- Sekoia 04:14, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

Works for me. \o/ --GuyPerfect 05:50, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
Woot woot! I am all for that suggested final product, however, I think a call such as {{Req SSA|chap=1|ep=1}} might be easier to work with... that way it works into the format that is used for the various icons and would require less coding work: [[File:ParagonMarket SignitureStoryArc{{chap|}}E{{ep|}}.png|20px]] will work. —Thirty7 Talk-Icon.jpg 06:31, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
I had avoided using the arc number because I figured they may not be referred to by number commonly once there's several out. It's not that hard to implement a switch that maps them out accordingly. Really, the same amount of code is needed either way. Either you're mapping "Who Will Die" to "Arc #1" (for the icon), or you're mapping "Arc #1" to "Who Will Die" (for the descriptive text). (As an aside, are they actually referred to as "chapters" anywhere? I would think "arc=" would have been more appropriate.) -- Sekoia 08:16, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
{{Req SSA|arc=Who Will Die|ep=1}} works for me. Everywhere in the documentation, they are referred to simply as storylines and story arcs and stories; no "chapter" anywhere. ~ User:Aggelakis/Sig1 08:21, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
Yeah I have no idea where chapter came from. Not that you need me, but I am on board with the formatting in Agge's and Sekoia's posts.  :) And good point Sekoia regarding the coding... either way there is a bunch that needs to be done with it. My only addition then would be to use the numbered icons, á là ParagonMarket SignatureStoryArc1Ep3.png Requires Who Will Die?, Episode 3. even tiny like that, it is worth being consistent in iconography. —Thirty7 Talk-Icon.jpg 08:43, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

I re-created {{Req SSA}} as per our discussion above. I don't have time to add documentation for it right now though. -- Sekoia 19:03, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

Well, for what it's worth, Who Will Die is officially referred to as Signature Story Arc 1, and I don't expect that to change.

Good to know. Officially, that is. —Thirty7 Talk-Icon.jpg 20:09, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
Well, given that... does that mean perhaps we should go with numbers after all? -- Sekoia 00:51, 7 January 2012 (UTC)
Having used the template as it is (Tyrka, for example)... I think keeping it in the format that it is works well. It seems more clear, and one can tell what is going on with it just by looking at the template code, not just the output. —Thirty7 Talk-Icon.jpg
That would probably be a good idea. I have it on good authority that SSA #2 is already being planned and written, and it may not be long after Who Will Die concludes that the next series launches. --Codewalker 04:13, 7 January 2012 (UTC)
