Schedule and Penalties
Rent is due four weeks after creating your base or four weeks after the last rent payment. If your supergroup fails to pay the rent, penalties will be assessed.
* Week 0: Base is created or rent is paid.
* Week 2: "Rent is due on X" notice appears; due date listed is two weeks later.
* Week 4: "Rent is due on X" changes to "Rent was due on X". No penalties occur for not paying on the due date.
* Week 6: Power is turned off. You are able to access the base and are able to use equipment which does not require power (i.e. storage items) but can not use any equipment that consumes power (i.e. telepads.)
* Week 8: Access to the base is restricted entirely.
All penalties for overdue rent are removed by paying rent, which also resets the rent cycle back to Week 0. Many players confuse the Week 4 Due Date with "rent must be paid now" - this is wrong; since there are no penalties until two weeks after the due date, it's unnecessary to pay rent every four weeks. The most efficient use of prestige is to wait six weeks between payments - eight weeks if all your base contains is items that do not require power.

Calculating Rent
Beginning in Issue 13, base rent is calculated based on the number of a few specific items placed in a base. Plot size and security/hidden status no longer have any effect on rent. Please note that Items of Power no longer provide Upkeep bonuses under this new system.

Second Rent System
Base Rent was calculated solely on your plot size. The larger the plot, the larger the rent. Secure plots also paid more rent, due to the number of defenses they are allowed to have. The intent was that if they were re-introduced, Items of Power would reduce the amount of Rent due.

Original Rent System
The original base rent system was both a rent and a tax. While the exact calculation is unknown for several parts of this formula,
(X * Z) + Y = rent
X = total amount of unspent prestige sg currently has as corresponding to a look up table. Ex: 10,000 free prestige would be 2, and 13,000 would be 3
Z = total number of objects subjectable to the tax (ex: control items, power items.. this excludes most decorations)
Y = rent charged per plot size + rent per room
The Table used in the Y portion of the equation is currently unknown, but most likely is similar to the calculations made in the second rent system, just at a larger amount.
The X amount can be lowered down to 0, thus avoiding the tax portion of equation provided the base architect has kept a good track of when the base rent will be calculated, and spends all loose prestige ahead of time.

Overview

Rent was an in-game charge to Supergroups based on what they possess in their bases, but has now been removed; all base components are free to install and use.
