The Damage Scale (also referred to as damage scalar) is a form of comparing attacks across archetypes (usually at level 50). The base damage modifier of an attack is compared with the Blaster archetype's original damage modifiers of 1.0 for both Ranged and Melee, though Blasters have since been buffed to 1.125 for ranged.
The Damage Scale (also referred to as damage scalar) is a form of comparing attacks across archetypes (usually at level 50). There is no actual game mechanic that makes use of the damage scales, but they are used in the assignment of damage values for powers. Damage scales are expressed as multipliers relative to Blaster melee damage, with Blaster melee being expressed as 1.000. For example, if a Blaster uses a melee attack (1.000) and does 50.0 damage, a Brute using the same melee attack (0.750) would do 37.5 (50.0 * 0.750) damage.

This is a player and developer created concept, not an actual game mechanic. What the game actually does is each power has a scale for the effect, and an attributes table that it pulls the value from; the damage scale of the attack is multiplied by the value pulled from the attribute modifiers table (determined by archetype and level) to get the actual effect of the power.
Notes:
* While the melee archetypes are assigned ranged damage scales, these scales are never used. Ranged attacks on melee archetypes use the melee damage scale.
* Temporary Powers use normalized scales that result in the same damage output regardless of which archetype is using them.

What the Damage Scale comparison does is if a level 50 Blaster did 50 points of damage from a melee attack, it would then be multiplied by the modifier for another archetype to find out how much it would do for that archetype. For instance, a Brute's Melee scale is .75; a level 50 Brute using the same attack as the level 50 Blaster (who did 50 points of damage) would do

50 * .75 = 37.5

37.5 damage at base, though keep in mind a Brute's Fury and a Blaster's Defiance allow greater damage.

It is important to note that no melee archetype actually uses their ranged scalar for any powers. All primary, secondary, and epic powers for melee characters still use the melee damage scale. Additionally, temporary powers ignore these scales; they do the same damage for each archetype.

Overview

The Damage Scale (also referred to as damage scalar) is a form of comparing attacks across archetypes (usually at level 50). There is no actual game mechanic that makes use of the damage scales, but they are used in the assignment of damage values for powers. Damage scales are expressed as multipliers relative to Blaster melee damage, with Blaster melee being expressed as 1.000. For example, if a Blaster uses a melee attack (1.000) and does 50.0 damage, a Brute using the same melee attack (0.750) would do 37.5 (50.0 * 0.750) damage.

Notes:

 • While the melee archetypes are assigned ranged damage scales, these scales are never used. Ranged attacks on melee archetypes use the melee damage scale.
 • Temporary Powers use normalized scales that result in the same damage output regardless of which archetype is using them.
