Overview
Exposure to chemicals, radiation or some other scientific process has left a hero or villain changed, with new and mysterious abilities far beyond the mass of humanity.
Initial Contacts
Most heroes of science origin will begin their adventures in Paragon City by contacting SERAPH, an organization that specializes in working with heroes of science origin. Heroes of science origin will have either Jonathan St. John Smythe in Atlas Park or Rebecca Brinell in Galaxy City as their initial contact, depending on which zone he or she selects as his or her beginning zone.
All Warshades are of science origin, and a Warshade's initial contact is Shadowstar.
Origin does not affect the initial contact of villains.
Enhancements
Heroes and villains of science origin may only use science dual-origin or single-origin enhancements. Villains normally obtain science-origin enhancements from the Science Quartermasters. Some lower-level contacts also sell science-origin enhancements, but at an inflated cost.
The Tranq Dart Power
Science heroes and villains receive the Tranq Dart power.
Science Origin Titles
All heroes and villains have two opportunities to select titles for their character; once at level 15, and once at level 25. The second title is origin-specific.
Past Relevance
In the beta version of City of Heroes, a hero's origin played a much bigger part of the game than it did upon the game's release.
Future Plans
There has been wide speculation that in the future, there may be missions specific to a hero's or villain's origin; however, these reports are currently unconfirmed.
