A tick is a small recurring increment of time. Within the game, many effects are based on ticks.
For example:
- A player's endurance recovers by a small amount over a period of time; and a player would see their endurance bar refill in small spurts as they recover.
- A player's health (hit points) regenerate over a period of time, likewise in a series of small increments that can be seen in their Health bar.
- Some types of attacks cause Damage over Time, applying damage for a number of ticks as well. Caltrops and Midnight Grasp spring to mind.
The interval between in tick is constant for any given single application of an effect or power, and is typically quite small (a second, perhaps less, perhaps more. However, the interval between ticks for one power of effect may well differe from another.
