Marty represents the first step in our plan to take back Imperial City. We will not live in fear of the ghouls anymore. I've seen soldiers scream, run in horror from the ghouls. But we can use them for our own benefit, take that fear and put it into the hearts of those in power.

{{green|And how exactly are we going to do that?}}

By training more ghouls, {{Character}}. They're like insects crawling in the tunnels. We can put them to work for us, just like Marty. The key is to show them that you have no fear, that you control them, not the other way around. There is a creature from the ghouls, one that I call the 'alpha'. If we were to capture him, we would be able to build up our own small group of powerful ghouls. [[Wardog]] can tell you where to find the alpha. We're not afraid of speaking normally around each other. I understand that Hatchet wants you to help him. His plan will work - that I have no doubt about - but only with your help. History has shown that even powerful men can depend on their allies. But you must be careful with the ghouls. {{green|Hatchet said you'd know where this 'alpha' ghoul is.}}

Yes, here's its location in the tunnels. But I have to strongly warn you, {{Character}}. Hatchet has become blind to his own ambitions. The ghouls can be used for great power, but without knowing where they come from, they will doom us all in the end.

Very few ideas. You've probably run into some ghouls yourself by now. You know that there is some humanity left in them. They question, they wonder, then they devour. If they chose to become this, then we have no problem, you understand. We simply give them a conduit for their rage. If they had this forced upon them, then we have to take that into consideration. We have to nurture their anger so that it takes them over. All I would suggest is that you try to find out whatever this alpha ghoul's name was when you bring it down.

Good job bringing in the Alpha. I'll work on getting the other packs of ghouls that it belonged to. Wardog told you that it was important to find out what these monsters once were? That's not surprising. Even as hardened as he's become now, he's always been one to tell us to respect history, to respect origins. He claims it's what makes us different from Cole and his regime, that we keep history as it is, that we remember it. But these monsters, {{Character}}, they don't need that. They don't need history, they just need to be used.

I've spent days, weeks in their lairs. That's how I earned my name. I survived in a lair of ghouls for a week, by myself, with nothing but a hatchet. I've seen how they act, how they behave. Whatever humanity they once had was gone, and we can't afford to bring that back to life. That's the trouble with most humans, you see. They aren't willing to take that extra step to do what it takes, all because of the fear of death. Only those who have faced death and won have no fear. Or, as you can see here with Marty, those who have no more humanity left in them. This is the only way we're going to win our war.

==== Part Two: My Name ====
When I first tamed Marty, I was able to look at those collars he wears, see what exactly they're for. Have you tried looking at one before? It's difficult to do so; they deactivate once the ghoul's lifesigns are terminated. But it's fascinating technology, very advanced. Oftentimes, the PPD will hold down ghouls and place tracking devices in these little collars. We've been hit a few times by surprise PPD ambushes that way. But what goes around comes around, Taosin. If the PPD can rig these collars, so can we. I'm not talking about tracking. I'm talking about rigging them to explode.

{{green|Exploding ghouls? Where would we get the technology for that?}}

Topside, in one of the labs in Imperial. That's where you come in. I'll need your help in retrieving the explosives from there. You and I are a team, after all. This plan is becoming as much yours as it is my own. The PPD know how to deal with ghouls, and they've got better ways to neutralize them.

If we install these explosives inside their collars, it will strike fear into the hearts of the PPD. They'll never know if the ghoul that's coming after them will blow up. The best part of it? We're killing two birds with one stone. The ghouls are serving our ends and we're cleaning up the tunnels. Here's the location of the lab. I'm going to have some of our boys ship Marty to the entrance in a box. He'll provide you with support. When you're done, you'll want to show the devices to [[Vagabond]]. He'll know how to hook them up.

If there's been a war, I've been there to see it through. You got the detonators? I got the know-how to install them into the ghouls, learned all about technology during my time serving in Italy. This was before the whole business with the Hamidon Wars, you know.

{{green|What do you know about a man named Lucas Marcone?}}

Eh? I don't know too much, I'm not one to keep up on the hogwash of names. Hatchet told me that you found out that's the name of that alpha ghoul, right? Well, I ain't got much to tell you about it, aside from that you shouldn't bother to look any further into it. The ghouls are monsters, nothing more. You got a problem with using monsters, you can go sign up with those Wardens, but if someone is gonna bring change to Praetoria, it's going to be us.

{{green|Alright. Here are the detonators.}}

Perfect! I'll get these rigged to our ghouls right away. Just make sure you're not around them when they go off!

{{green|I'll make sure of that.}}}}

'''Debriefing'''

Vagabond should have the detonators all rigged to go. Alpha has given us plenty of ghouls. Or, I should say, ''we'' took plenty of ghouls with Alpha. They don't have a mind of their own, you have to understand. They're animals following a pack; we just happened to know how to make that pack follow. We've got alpha and four other ghouls, waiting to tear apart the PPD, or to be blown up by us. It's a wonderful thing, using monsters.

''Marty's head jerks to the side with a growl.''

We couldn't do this with people. After all, that would make us the monsters and cost us another gun in a fight. If this works, we can turn all the ghouls we encounter into ammo. Cole will soon learn that there's no stopping the Resistance; we'll use every monster he throws at us to bring him down.

====  Part Three: Fodder ====

We've got a problem, {{Character}}. Vagabond can't put the devices on the ghouls just yet. He was almost bitten by the lot of them. It looks like they're hungry, and it's obvious what they're hungry for - flesh. We're not going to be able to move forward unless we feed our army. This is where you come in. We've located a warehouse in Praetoria that houses many of the Clockwork. Today, three PPD officers trained to program them will be running their routine inspections...

{{green|You need me to bring those officers here for the ghoul's 'dinner'.}}

Exactly. We'll feed the ghouls and also disable some of the Clockwork. It shouldn't be too difficult, but you'll have to make sure the Clockwork that they're fixing don't send this report to any of their other robots. We can't have our plans be spoiled, not just yet. Look on the bright side, doing this will discourage any of those bright-eyed, brainwashed youths from joining the PPD. I'll make sure they know what happened to these PPD. Maybe then they'll think twice about signing on board, knowing that one of the risks is being eaten alive.

''You notice Marty seems to be getting hungry with the mention of food. ''

It's only fair. It's a danger all of us here face every day, why shouldn't they have to face it too?

'''Unsolicited Contact'''

Just remember, these PPD deserve what's coming to them. It's all fair when it comes to this war.

Good work, {{Character}}. Vagabond is feeding the ghouls as we speak. That's three less soldiers in the PPD and five more fighters for us in the Resistance. It's an ugly matter, but we live in ugly times. You have to understand, Taosin, this was our only option, the only thing we could do to move forward with our plan. In times of war, good men must do horrible things for what is right. That's all that we're doing here: horrible things to make a stand against Cole.

====  Part Four: The Feast ====

Everything is set, {{Character}}. The time has come to unleash our plan. The devices are all hooked up to the ghouls and will react properly when they've reached a certain threshold of pain.

We've got them packed up and shipped out to one of the main office buildings of the PPD. Just imagine how it'll look in the headlines, the people seeing ghouls out of the tunnels, slaughtering their beloved PPD. Who could they trust after that, knowing that the PPD couldn't fight the ghouls? How could the ghouls have possibly gotten out of the tunnels? Perhaps, most of all, these sheep of Cole will begin to question ''where'' the ghouls truly came from.

{{green|I'm assuming I'm leading the attack on the office, right?}}

Of course. I wouldn't have it any other way. It's crucial that you leave ''no'' survivors in that building. Every single member of the PPD in there is going to pay the ultimate price for supporting Cole. We'll be here, waiting eagerly for your return, {{Character}}. Marty will be here as well. Vagabond wanted to send him in, but Marty is far too important to waste on this operation.

'''Debriefing'''

Glorious, {{Character}}! That's all I can say. I think we've put the proper fear into the PPD, don't you think? And, we've proven that ghouls ''can'' be used to fight for us. These monsters are going to help us turn the tide of the war. The best part is that we won't have to worry about dealing with them when the war is over; we'll just flip a switch, and they'll all explode!

''Marty looks to Hatchet. ''

Except for Marty here. Marty is a prime example of a monster brought into civilization. He will be the one we use to find the other ghouls. He's much too valuable to just throw away like those others.

We've got ourselves a bona fide former Seer in our midst, Character.

Beholder is a former Seer. She hasn't told any of us how long she was actually a Seer, or how long she has left to live, but neither answer is good. She's a woman who makes good use of her time, so be careful not to waste any of it. She has a habit of getting very angry very fast.

Beholder can be a cold woman, but that's the kind of person we need to handle the situation we're in.

Information

Ghoul Tamer

Hatchet is known for one thing - his taming of ghouls. His pet ghoul, 'Marty', makes many people in the Resistance nervous, but he insists those that are nervous simply haven't conquered their own fear of death. This does not alleviate anyone's fear.

Initial Contact

Good to meet you, Character. I've heard many things about you. They all point to one thing; you're someone who knows how to get things done. That is the kind of person we need here in the Resistance. There are too many people within our group who aren't willing to take the necessary steps to take down Cole. The fact that you're talking to me means you're willing to do what it takes. We've got a plan, a really big plan, Character. Let's see if we both live long enough to see it through.

Spare Detonator

Hatchet gave you this spare detonator to use in case the Resistance ever 'recruits' more ghouls to their cause. It reminds you of an experience you call...

No Room for Humanity

Hatchet's plan was simple: tame and train ghouls to work for the Resistance. You were able to tame an alpha ghoul down in the tunnels. Hatchet used the alpha ghoul to get four more ghouls to 'join' the Resistance. In the meantime, you raided a PPD lab to recover detonators. Vagabond would hook the detonators up to the collars of the ghouls, setting them to explode when the time was right. Before Vagabond could do this, you had to kidnap three members of the PPD to feed the hungry ghouls; Vagabond was not willing to go near a small group of ghouls who were hungry for human flesh.

When all that was done, you raided a large PPD office with the ghouls, making a bold statement to those who came to the scene afterwards: the ghouls could now be used by the Resistance, and that it was no longer safe anywhere, not even in the luxurious offices of Imperial City.

Part One: The Alpha

Briefing

When you've seen what I've seen, Character, you tend to look at life differently. Take Marty here, for instance. Most see him as a monster, as something out to kill them. They look at Marty and see him as a symbol of their own death. They fear him because they fear death. Their sight is limited. They could never see him as a tool, as a weapon to be used to fight for our freedom.

I trained Marty, Character, I trained him to fight for us. People called me insane, but look at him now.

Marty growls, staring blankly ahead.

Marty represents the first step in our plan to take back Imperial City. We will not live in fear of the ghouls anymore. I've seen soldiers scream, run in horror from the ghouls. But we can use them for our own benefit, take that fear and put it into the hearts of those in power.

  • And how exactly are we going to do that?

By training more ghouls, Character. They're like insects crawling in the tunnels. We can put them to work for us, just like Marty. The key is to show them that you have no fear, that you control them, not the other way around. There is a creature from the ghouls, one that I call the 'alpha'. If we were to capture him, we would be able to build up our own small group of powerful ghouls. Wardog can tell you where to find the alpha. It'll be up to you to demonstrate who has the true power.

Unnecessary Solicitation

Don't get too close to Marty, Character. He won't kill you, but his bites aren't too pleasant.

Mission Objective(s)

Briefing

Character, right? I'm Wardog. You'll notice a lot of us here in Imperial don't use that 'Resistance' speak. We're not afraid of speaking normally around each other. I understand that Hatchet wants you to help him. His plan will work - that I have no doubt about - but only with your help. History has shown that even powerful men can depend on their allies. But you must be careful with the ghouls. Hatchet is confident that his own abilities can control the ghouls, but he does not know what the ghouls truly are. None of us do.

Yes, here's its location in the tunnels. But I have to strongly warn you, Character. Hatchet has become blind to his own ambitions. The ghouls can be used for great power, but without knowing where they come from, they will doom us all in the end.

  • Any ideas on how to find where these ghouls come from?

Briefing

The alpha ghoul growls at you, moving back. It seems to recognize your power and stands down. This could be your chance to uncover more about the ghouls, but you'll have to be assertive when speaking with it.

  • Tell me your name!

Name... don't remember name... too hard to remember... easier to just feed... feed on the bones...

  • I told you to remember! Think, what was your name!

Too difficult, do not want to remember!

  • I don't care if it's too difficult, I told you to remember!
Refuse to remember... Do not want to remember what it once was...!
  • (Beat down the ghoul to force it to remember)

  • (Beat down the ghoul to force it to remember) (A)

You beat down the ghoul, yelling for it to remember its name. Finally, it lets out a small groan, its blank eyes filling with tears, a possible sign of memory.

I... was... Lucas... Lucas... Marcone...

  • Good. Now let's get out of here.
Clue
I was Lucas

You beat down the alpha ghoul beneath Imperial City and forced it to remember its old name. The ghoul did everything to repress the memory, but eventually it gave in, telling you that its name was Lucas Marcone.

Debriefing

Good job bringing in the Alpha. I'll work on getting the other packs of ghouls that it belonged to. Wardog told you that it was important to find out what these monsters once were? That's not surprising. Even as hardened as he's become now, he's always been one to tell us to respect history, to respect origins. But what goes around comes around, Character. If the PPD can rig these collars, so can we. I'm not talking about tracking. I'm talking about rigging them to explode.

  • Exploding ghouls? Where would we get the technology for that?

When you're done, you'll want to show the devices to Vagabond. He'll know how to hook them up.

Marty bursts out of the box he was contained in and looks to you. Hatchet has trained him well enough that he seems to be willing to follow your orders.

  • Retrieve the Explosive Devices
    • 3 boxes to search
    • Find information on Lucas Marcone (Optional)
    • Defeat Investigator Soto

You've retrieved the detonators! Now to bring them to Vagabond for him to hook them up.

Speak with Vagabond

Unnecessary Solicitation

Good, you've gotten the detonators. Vagabond will know what to do with them.

Mission Objective(s)

  • Speak with Vagabond

Briefing

Eh? You're the guy / girl that Hatchet is goin' on about, huh? He's into a lotta hogwash, but this ain't one of them. Name's Vagabond. If there's been a war, I've been there to see it through. You got the detonators? I got the know-how to install them into the ghouls, learned all about technology during my time serving in Italy. This was before the whole business with the Hamidon Wars, you know.

  • Here are the detonators.
This selection loops to another branch of this conversation which is already documented. (A)
  • What do you know about a man named Lucas Marcone?
  • Alright. Here are the detonators. (A)
Perfect! I'll get these rigged to our ghouls right away. Just make sure you're not around them when they go off!
  • I'll make sure of that.

Debriefing

Vagabond should have the detonators all rigged to go. Alpha has given us plenty of ghouls. Or, I should say, we took plenty of ghouls with Alpha. They don't have a mind of their own, you have to understand. They're animals following a pack; we just happened to know how to make that pack follow. We've got alpha and four other ghouls, waiting to tear apart the PPD, or to be blown up by us. It's a wonderful thing, using monsters. Marty's head jerks to the side with a growl.

We couldn't do this with people. After all, that would make us the monsters and cost us another gun in a fight. If this works, we can turn all the ghouls we encounter into ammo. Cole will soon learn that there's no stopping the Resistance; we'll use every monster he throws at us to bring him down.

Part Three: Fodder

Briefing

We've got a problem, Character.

  • You need me to bring those officers here for the ghouls' 'dinner'.

You notice Marty seems to be getting hungry with the mention of food.

It's only fair. It's a danger all of us here face every day, why shouldn't they have to face it too?

Unnecessary Solicitation

Just remember, these PPD deserve what's coming to them. It's all fair when it comes to this war.

You can hear the whirring of the Clockwork in the distance, followed by a programmer cursing about old code.

  • Retrieve 'food' for the ghouls
    • 3 programmers to kidnap

You've gathered the food for the ghouls. Hopefully Vagabond will be able to wire them properly now.

Debriefing

Good work, Character. Vagabond is feeding the ghouls as we speak. That's three less soldiers in the PPD and five more fighters for us in the Resistance. It's an ugly matter, but we live in ugly times. You have to understand, Character, this was our only option, the only thing we could do to move forward with our plan. In times of war, good men must do horrible things for what is right. That's all that we're doing here: horrible things to make a stand against Cole.

Part Four: The Feast

Briefing

Everything is set, Character.

Perhaps, most of all, these sheep of Cole will begin to question where the ghouls truly came from.

  • I'm assuming I'm leading the attack on the office, right?

Of course. I wouldn't have it any other way. It's crucial that you leave no survivors in that building. Every single member of the PPD in there is going to pay the ultimate price for supporting Cole. We'll be here, waiting eagerly for your return, Character. Marty will be here as well. Vagabond wanted to send him in, but Marty is far too important to waste on this operation.

Players who originally chose Loyalists but have become Resistance have the option to call up Provost Marchand to tell him about events that are happening. This will begin the optional storyline to work undercover in the Crusaders.

This is our time, Character!

    • Leave no survivors!

The attack is over, no PPD are left standing.

Ambush! At two points in the mission, you will be ambushed by three waves of PPD.

Debriefing

Glorious, Character! That's all I can say. I think we've put the proper fear into the PPD, don't you think? And, we've proven that ghouls can be used to fight for us. These monsters are going to help us turn the tide of the war. The best part is that we won't have to worry about dealing with them when the war is over; we'll just flip a switch, and they'll all explode!

Marty looks to Hatchet.

Except for Marty here. Marty is a prime example of a monster brought into civilization. He will be the one we use to find the other ghouls. He's much too valuable to just throw away like those others.
