A Trial is a type of mission arc that is similar to a Task Force/Strike Force but with fewer missions. Trials contain unusual encounters with enemies that require a high level of cooperation between team members to conquer. Special rewards are given at the end of trials, such as respecifications or enhancements that affect multiple attributes. Most contain a timed finale mission.

Types of Trials

Trials can typically be categorized into three types:

Standard Trials

Standard trials consist of only 1 or 2 missions. The first mission is typically a hunt task (Defeat X), and the second mission is the trial proper.

Respecification (Respec) Trial

Respecification trials typically consist of 3 missions. The first two missions are standard missions (Defeat <boss> and his crew, Defeat X Enemies, etc.). The third mission is the trial proper, which involves defending an objective (heroes) or defeating an objective (villains). These are the only trials that can grant a Power Respecification upon completion.

Supergroup Trial

A Supergroup Trial is performed by a supergroup in order to obtain an Item of Power. These Items of Power give a global benefit to all supergroup members until it is lost in a base raid or the Item of Power expires (up to 30 days). Supergroup trials are currently inactive due to flaws in the base raiding system.

Trial Requirements

Each trial has a minimum team size and a maximum level cap. Trials cannot be outleveled because high level teammates are automatically exemplared down. Special contacts are required to begin the trial but anyone of the proper level with the proper size team may talk to the contact. The trial will spawn enemies at the maximum level every time. They may be run multiple times.

While running a trial, none of the team's other missions are available to them. Once the trial has been formed, you must continue to run the trial until you finish it or drop from it.

Trials have badges associated with them and often have unique mobs, maps, or both.

Rewards

Each team member chooses a reward upon completion of a trial. The respecification trials offer the options of a Pool D Recipe drop, a respec, or one of the usual origin-appropriate enhancements. (The respecification option can only be selected 3 times per character). The other trials grant other choices, including recipes from other tables, "monster" enhancements or the standard single origin enhancement. Monster enhancements are not available choices for characters exemplared to the Abandoned Sewer Trial.

Raids

Raids are large zone events that have many differences from Trials but are generally listed together with them. Raids do not have contacts, and may be initiated at any time. However, they generally require 20 or more level 50 characters divided into multiple teams, and may take several hours to complete.

Raid Name Typical
Size
Level Range Notes / Reward
Rikti Ship Raid 20+ 35 to 50 no completion reward, only Vanguard Merits
Hamidon Raid 50 45 to 50 Hamidon Origin Enhancements

Raids are available to both Heroes and Villains. The Rikti Ship Raid is cooperative, whereas each side has its own separate Hami Raid.
